A Little Claustrophobic

I first applied to Transfer to San Francisco about 10 days ago, but I kept it under wraps.  Only a few close friends knew, since I didn’t want to jinx my chances.  Having now gotten the go ahead, I announced my plans to the world in the letter posted after the jump.  And don’t flip over the blanks, I scrubbed it of identifying marks to throw all you creepy internet stalker types off my trail.

Read the letter to friends and family…

I’d like to take a few minutes of your time today to make a major announcement, but first, a little background info.   I have been living in DC (except for summers at camp in C______, and a brief stint in London) for the past 5 years now.   I did my undergraduate work at _________ University, and I am now employed at _________.   I love this city, its people, its culture, everything.  I am grateful for all the experiences I’ve had here, and all the friends I’ve made here.   Lately, however, I’ve begun to feel a little claustrophobic.  I’m a nomadic person, and to be anywhere for too long feels uncomfortable.

Fortunately for me, my restlessness has coincided by a bit of corporate restlessness at _______.  The company will be undergoing a major organizational change, as well as opening two new regional offices, this spring.   That confluence has given me the opportunity to progress my career and personal life at the same time.

Today I am proud to announce that I will be relocating to San Francisco, California in late March.  With the blessings and encouragement of my managers here in Washington, I will be taking a new position in the soon to be opened West Coast office.   I am very excited about this opportunity to be involved in opening a new office, as well as experiencing a new city.

As the time for my big move gets closer, and more details become available, I will pass that information on to you.
